Bon Jovi: It has a name?

Most of this article goes onto to talk about how popular music put artists into Genre's and maybe they should expand "Rock" to include artists like Eminem or Lil Wayne.

But this is the most interesting paragraph:

Rock’s poor chart performance in 2010 was part of an ongoing downward sales trend that goes back to at least to the turn of the century. On Billboard’s list of the top artists of the ’00s, which was compiled using data from the albums and Hot 100 singles charts, only one rock band ranked in the Top 10: Nickelback. Two other bands, Creed and Linkin Park, squeaked into the lower reaches of the Top 20, thanks mainly to popular releases from earlier in the decade. The only Billboard chart where rock did well was the Top Touring Artists list, but the long-term commercial prognosis for the genre wasn’t exactly rosy there, either. Four out of the top five road warriors were rock acts, but all of them—The Rolling Stones, U2, Bruce Springsteen, and Elton John—are old enough to be Adele’s parents (or grandparents). The youngest of the top touring rock groups, Bon Jovi, is still primarily known as an ’80s band geared toward big-haired housewives who name their vibrators “Richie.”

Ok, before I start on that last sentence, why do women sleep and then neglect to use birth control in order to get pregnant by Lil Wayne?  He has like 20 kids by 16 mothers, there's no long term child support money there.

Anyway.  Bon Jovi is the youngest group, which I'm sure makes Jon's ego happy.

The 80's label will never go away to most people no matter how incorrect it is.

But how many of you have Vibrators named Richie?

Or Jon, or David, or Tico?

I mean its not the most ridiculous thing I've heard being named, my co-worker named her Thanksgiving turkey Pasqual since she was going to be spending 3 days with it, loving it and plying it with spices and wine before she cooked it (and she's a vegetarian so she doesn't even eat it).

Bon Jovi: Bon Jovi’s Richie Sambora keeps rocking

The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, or as I call it when I've driven by it going North or South on the Florida Turnpike, The Place where Anna-Nicole Smith Died.

Richie Sambora had a lot to be thankful for on Thanksgiving. After more than 30 years in the rock ’n’ roll business, the Bon Jovi guitarist is still grinding away, working on another solo effort and teaming up with band mate and longtime friend Jon Bon Jovi for a new album.

That’s why he tries to give back.

Sambora, 52, will team up with legendary singer/songwriter Richie Supa to host the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County 13th Annual “Bikers Bash” at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Dec. 9.

“I’m the kind of guy who always tries to aim at helping children,’’ says Sambora from Los Angeles. “Every time I get involved in charities it’s to help kids, whether they’re abusing drugs or runaways, or in trouble somehow.’’

He thinks charity work gives him a better perspective on life.

“You see these kids in danger,’’ he says, remembering a trip to Joe DiMaggio’s Children’s Hospital. “I realize how blessed I am to have a healthy child. Knock on wood.’’

Daughter Ava — with ex wife Heather Locklear — is now 14. The two are headed to Hawaii together for the holidays.

“It’s so remote is what I like about it. I’m a beach guy.’’

But that doesn’t mean the New Jersey native can stay still for long (“10 days of vacation and I’m good’’). Though touring can be tough, at least Bon Jovi isn’t on a bus.

“It’s nice to be off the road for a change. We figured out a while ago that we get around the world a lot quicker on private planes. Our last tour lasted 18 months, flying virtually every day,’’ he says. “We did 50 countries. Not cities. I mean, if you ask someone to name 50 countries, I think they’d be hard pressed!’’

Sambora loves the traveling part of the job.

“Being in America isn’t old-hat — it’s where we’re from —but I get excited to be in other parts of the world like Athens and Croatia, which were quite cool,’’ says Sambora. “I’m a sightseer. I go see the sights and museums. I’m into that kind of thing.’’

Another thing that never gets old: Seeing the Bon Jovi faithful come out en masse.

“Rock and roll is a contact sport,’’ he says. “I enjoy playing the tunes that really get the people going.’’

Audiences still go crazy when they jam classics like Wanted Dead or Alive, It’s My Life and Living on a Prayer.

Give the people what they want is the group’s motto.

“I’m always asked, ‘Does it ever get old?’ Well, I tell you what: It’s like having sex with 70,000 people at a time. If you ask me, Do I go back to my hotel room by myself and play Living on a Prayer, no. But I’ll probably pull it out if someone’s going to enjoy it.’’

When Sambora isn’t traveling the globe or making music he works on a women’s fashion line called Nikki Rich, formerly White Trash Beautiful. “Fashion and music go together,’’ says Sambora of the clothes that he calls “sexy and chic.’’

Life’s good for the music man who is dating actress Denise Richards.

“I’m a lucky guy. I don’t take for granted for one minute what I do.’’

Bon Jovi: The Black & White Ball (Keep a Child Alive Benefit)

NEW YORK — Alicia Keys performed hit songs, covers and collaborated with Usher and will.i.am at her charity’s annual event, but the singer also played the role of a charmer.

During an auction to raise money for Keep a Child Alive, Keys took off two 18-carat gold bracelets and put them up for bid. Once someone agreed to buy the items for $14,000, a light bulb seemed to switch in her brain.

“Wait a minute, I have an idea. I was just thinking, since I have two that we could sell one to you for $14,000, and one to you for $14,000,” she said, pointing at two different people. “Isn’t that a great idea?”

The crowd cheered her on.

“This is very special table by the way,” she said. “These are my friends. Friends love friends.”

Her charm and talent helped the singer raise $401,500 through auctions at her Black Ball event, which celebrates Keep a Child Alive, her 8-year-old organization aiding HIV/AIDS victims in Africa and India.

A dinner party with Edward Norton and Naomi Watts went for $25,000 and a trip to Paris Fashion Week to see shows by Givenchy sold for $15,000. The top bid was a lifetime membership to all Donald Trump golf properties, selling at $180,000.

Keys was joined onstage by Usher, Richie Sambora, Norah Jones, Gary Clark, Jr., and others at the event Thursday night at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom. She closed the night with Black Eyed Peas’ leader will.i.am, singing Fergie’s verse on the hit “I Gotta Feeling,” which had Keys’ mom and younger brother dancing happily onstage.

The event honored the charity’s commitment to India, showing videos of children in the country battling with HIV/AIDS, and being kicked out of their homes as a result.

“We all deserve a chance at life,” Keys said in an interview on the red carpet. “Tonight really goes to the people. It really goes to the people that we serve, so that they can have the medicine to live.”

George Harrison, the late Beatles guitarist, was honored for his philanthropic commitments to India and his 1971 concert for Bangladesh with Ravi Shankar, which funded relief efforts for East Pakistan refugees following the 1970 Bhola cyclone. Harrison’s widow, Olivia Harrison, said she would make a pledge to Keys’ charity.

Another honoree was Anthony Scaramucci, the author and managing partner of SkyBridge Capital. He said he and SkyBridge will raise $1 million for Keys’ charity next year.

Keep a Child Alive — which Keys started in 2003 — came just two years after the singer released her multiplatinum and multiple Grammy-winning debut, “songs in A minor.” In addition to raising money, the 30-year-old said she’s happy to raise “consciousness and awareness” of HIV/AIDS struggles throughout the world.

Celebrities at the Black Ball event included Serena Williams, David Arquette, Queen Latifah, Tyra Banks, Clive Davis and Keys’ husband, rapper-producer Swizz Beatz.

Bon Jovi: New Music from Richie and Nikki

The song is called "Learn to Love".

Comments are disabled.

My understanding is the Ass in the Pants song had some really BRUTAL comments (which could be why it was taken down), one of the ones I heard from multiple people was bad karaoke (ouch).

Richie writes great love songs (I'll be There for you and my understanding is Never Say Goodbye as well), whereas Jon writes songs about stalkers (Always) or bad movie cliches (You had me from hello, Thank You for Loving Me).

Bon Jovi: Sambora signs car in dad's memory

Sambora signs car in dad's memory

Richie Sambora, guitarist from Bon Jovi, looks for a place Wednesday to sign a 1953 Austin Healey 100 in honor of his father, who died of cancer. The World Class Motoring Big Wednesday event in Agoura Hills saluted Drive Away Cancer and founder John Nikas, who drove the Austin Healey on a 19-state marathon to raise cancer awareness.

John Nikas thought the broken, abused 1953 Austin Healey 100 that just wouldn't quit was the perfect metaphor for people with cancer.

He decided to take the car on a 10-day, 19-state, 7,241-mile solo trip. He called the journey Drive Away Cancer, to raise support and money for cancer awareness.

"If this broken car could do things, then people who are sick can keep trying," he said at Agoura Hills' World Class Motoring, where the car he's named Grace was on display Wednesday night. "This car could barely run, but she has the heart of a lion. She won't quit.

"The car belongs to a friend of mine who let me take it for a short drive to see if I could get it running," said Nikas, who recently returned from Drive Away Cancer. "He got such a kick out of seeing it run again that when he called a couple of days later and told me he had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, I thought if he got such a kick out of seeing it go to Ventura, maybe he'd get a kick out of seeing it go somewhere else."

For eight days, Nikas and some cohorts worked on the car.

Then he put the names of those he'd lost to cancer and those now fighting it on the back in vinyl lettering.

The day he was leaving, amid a big send-off, Nikas realized he had forgotten to put the car owner's name among those in vinyl. He sent someone out to get some markers, and suddenly everyone present was writing the names of those they had lost to cancer, names of survivors, or those still fighting for their lives.

Austin Healey 100 raises support for cancer awareness

"It was never our intention to do that, but every time I stopped in a city, people asked if they could sign the car," said Nikas, 41.

Nikas, who lives in Irvine, brought the car to World Class Motoring for its monthly Big Wednesday bash.

Local resident Richie Sambora, Bon Jovi's guitarist, dropped by to add his signature to the car.

"Richie lost his father, Adam, to cancer in 2007, so we wanted to give him an opportunity to sign the car in his father's memory tonight," said Fred Lobianco, co-owner of World Class Motoring.

"I'm here to support John Nikas, who drove across the country for cancer awareness," Sambora said. "Also, these guys here at World Class Motoring take care of my cars. I have a '34 Coupe like that one over there and a Ferrari and an Aston Martin."

Nikas said wherever he went, people were drawn to the car. One woman nearly fainted when she saw that her brother had already penned their father's name two states earlier.

"On the way back East, a man asked if I was going to California. I said I was as soon as I hit the Atlantic and I was going to turn around. He gave me a picture of his wife and said he had always promised to take her to California, but she had passed away before they had made it, so would I take her? So I got some Scotch tape and taped her to the dashboard."

At the end of October, Nikas will participate with the car in the Mille Miglia North American Tribute California rally, a 1,000-mile race.

"Cancer can only kill you," Nikas said. "It can't take away your legacy or the memories you leave behind and it can't take away the people who love you."

Bon Jovi: See Richie TONIGHT in Southern California

Richie is going to be at World Class Motoring in Agoura Hills, CA. He's going to sign a vintage 1953 Austin Healey 100 and drive his own Porsche.

If you know someone who has cancer or lost someone to cancer, its a very heartwarming story of this guy who drove this little car across the US and now the car (named 'Grace') "unexpectedly evolved into a rolling memorial for cancer victims and an inspiration to those fighting the disease".

Bon Jovi: Richie's MDA Performace

Richie sounded great as did Lorenza and Hugh!

I think last night on Twitter someone mentioned that when Richie does these one off solo acoustic things they sound better than when Jon does them.

I have to agree (sorry Jon).

Is it because Richie's played guitar on the original recording and therefore can emulate the technique that sounds best to my ear (and memory)?

Is it because on some base level (I know this is going to come across mean) I think Richie goes into these type of things from a purer place (meaning he actually wants to help raise money and help people with Muscular Diseases versus Jon who does a lot of these charity type shows because either he or someone he is friends with is being recognized by that organization?) I think the last show Jon did like this that was nationally televised was either Stand Up to Cancer or The Hurricane Katrina relief shows. But then again he was with Richie at both those shows.

But this is my blog, my opinion.
