Last January I decided to bite the bullet and join Backstage with Jon Bon Jovi. I always wanted to join the Fan Club since the days of the Secret Society (I was 10-11 back in 1986, what the hell is a money order to a 10 year old?). But I always found a reason to spend the money on something else.
Everyone talks about how you can buy tickets early, and pit seats. So last year I was late for the Circle Tour, but last night.
I now understand the excitement.
The frustration.
The complete disbelief.
More frustration.
Insert a few choice curse words.
Did I say frustrated?
How do Pit Tickets in every venue sell out in 10 seconds??? Who types the Captcha words that fast?? I mean I was getting IXXI tounequet what does that mean?
Oh did I mention the excitement when you're happy your going (Yes I still get chills every time I hear Prayer or my personal favorite Wanted live, screw the haters that are tired of those songs, go see Lady Gaga instead.)
But I'm happy, I will be road tripping it Southwest Airlines style.
First Stop, San Antonio Texas. We will pretend we're Ozzy by wearing a dress and peeing on the Alamo.
Sorry in advance Texas.
Oh wait Lady Gaga will be in San Antonio 2 days before us, so we may get invited back.
We leave Texas for the public indecency of Viva Lost Wages, I mean Las Vegas. We're going to spend a few days in LV. And besides Bon Jovi see a few shows (LOVE anyone? Thunder From Down Under?)
The MGM Grand show was more expensive than the Garden and appeared to sell out faster. It's a personal rule not to head into the New York area in February, last time I did that I tailgated in the Meadowlands in 28 degree weather staying warm by drinking Godiva laced hot chocolate, standing in snow drifts. I live in Florida, I don't want to be cold. I don't have the clothes to stay warm anymore. Going North during the late winter months means New Wardrobe, that I'll wear twice.
So awesome. San Antonio (& the Alamo) and the MGM Grand. If anyone is interested in meeting up pre or post show in either city please let me know.
Another awesome Bon Jovi vacation to look forward to in 2011!!!

Bon Jovi: More European Dates Rumored & X Factor (UK) appearance
More European dates are rumored and an X-Factor appearance.
So they will FINALLY get to play Wembley Stadium in its new incarnation, since it wasn't finished last time.
And The X Factor Simon Cowell's UK talent competition that's brought us Leona Lewis, Susan Boyle and the Jabawockies. Awesome.
Bon Jovi are set to return to Scotland in 2011. This year they played a residency at the O2 Arena in London playing 20 odd dates in June. Bon Jovi are set to return to play outdoors, and are lining up a huge outdoor conccert at the home of Scottish Rugby Murrayfield in June 2010. They wanted to play at Hampden Park but Take That have secured Hampden Park. The US Rockers Bon Jovi fronted by Jon Bon Jovi, will play other live dates in the UK with Wembley almost a dead cert. The Bon Jovi Wembley date is expected to be 29th July 2011. Before this Bon Jovi are to perform live on the X Factor Results show on 31st October 2010, it is therefore expected that Bon Jovi Stadium Concerts will go on sale on Friday 5th November 2010. An Bon Jovi UK Tour announcement is expected on 27th October 2010.

Bon Jovi: It's an Idea that will never happen, Bon Jovi plays each album in concert
Last weekend during our Gutter Girls weekend we were discussing the Bon Jovi shows we've been to over the years and songs we've heard surprises, etc.
One of the things we all thought was a great idea was a series of shows at a small venue with minimal production and during these shows Bon Jovi played 1 album in its entirety.
Now here's the thing when you buy your ticket it tells you what album is going to be played that night. So if you don't want to hear 7800 and you buy the ticket to the 7800 night, its your own damned fault, scalp the ticket or keep your mouth shut. And yes Jon does have to show up that night.
Now for us fans who are obsessive there should be a "box set" of tickets where you can get all the shows (for a discount cause times are tough they're just getting tougher, whole world is rough its just getting rougher... Oh wait that's Bruce. Sorry) and you get a little collectible box where all your ticket stubs can be displayed like the ultimate Bon Jovi fan badge of honor, I saw all the albums played in their entirety and lived to tell the tale.
Of course Crossroads and the GH are exempt because you know they're not full studio albums.
So what do you think?
I doubt it would happen, but it's a good idea and has anything like this ever been done before? I know Bruce played specific albums during his residence at MSG but was it on the ticket stub?
Which shows would you be particularly excited about?

Taipei, Oct. 19 (CNA) The American rock band Bon Jovi might stage a concert in Taiwan next year, 15 years since the band's last visit in 1995, Universal Music said in a press release Tuesday.
Jon Bon Jovi, the lead singer of the band, has expressed the hope of visiting Taiwan in 2011, depending on the band's schedule, according to the press release. The band has played in Taiwan twice, in 1993 and 1995.
The band, formed in 1983, has performed more than 2,600 concerts in over 50 countries for more than 34 million fans and is considered in some circles as the most successful band in the world. (By Tsai Hsin-hua and Maia Huang) ENDITEM/J

Lots of Richie stuff today. Don't think I don't take care of my Richie girls. Thanks to Amit for pointing this out. Thanks to Christi for pointing out during the show, that during Whole Lotta Leaving that Richie was playing a wireless guitar which he doesn't like to play, but here's the story on why, and a picture I took because even before Christi pointed it out I recognized that this was a new and special guitar. The pictures of Richie below were taken by me, please credit me accordingly. Thanks.

The state of Alabama are celebrating 2011 as the Year of Alabama Music and have commissioned the Gibson Custom Shop to craft a guitar in the shape of the state.
Bob Harrison, from the state’s marketing agency, explained that the idea is to use the guitar over the next year to bring attention to Alabama’s rich musical tradition.
“We want people to be aware of Alabama’s musical legacy from blues to country, Muscle Shoals, jazz and so on,” he said.
Television spots and print ads will feature musicians playing the Alabama guitar. Also, bands and artists playing in Alabama next year will be offered the opportunity to play the unique guitar at their concerts.

Finally good video surfaces of this new Bon Jovi hit being played in a stadium. The PC Richards version is nice but in reality so many more people will be exposed to this song in a stadium or arena setting. Also the acoustics are better at the PC Richards Theater than they are in a stadium.

"The songs change from place to place..." REALLY??
Jon needs to actually look at the set list from night to night, changing out 1 or 2 songs and doing a different cover is not really a change is it?
Here's the translated page courtesy of Google.

Bebe Contepomi traveled to the United States to interview Bon Jovi, in exclusive Telenoche. The Argentine fans are eager to see them live in our country. "We are eager to play in Argentina. Long time no go, well I'm happy to be back. We are eager to go. Yes, I remember the pitch. And also, buying works of art. I really liked, "he told Jon Bon Jovi, lead singer of the band.
For his part, guitarist Richie Sambora recalled his last visit to the country. "We bought many works of art. We ate good food and we all agreed on the court. Buy works of art ... is a great city, very bohemian. "
The American group shows are very good in its staging. "There were two shows alike. … The scenarios ... It is a good production and the songs change with each show and never know which ones are going to do. Never know, do not even think. Everyone knows the reputation of the band: full of hits shows long and we guarantee they're going to go well. "
On the musical style that Bon Jovi development in recent years, the singer said that "we were very prolific in the last decade. We made five records and now, the Greatest Hits. I think every day is an opportunity to write a song. You only have to open some more eyes and pay attention to what you're listening. Every day is a reminder of how we see it, and there is always something to say and see. "The circle" was a vision of what was happening in the world and write about it.The Greatest Hits is a celebration and the songs are more for partying. They are more about life and love, rather than on current problems such as "The Circle". Every day there are opportunities to write. "
The validity of the band is no secret. "The great secret is to continue being yourself. Writing songs, be who you are as an artist. Some will like and others not, to some like a disk, and another not. Also, the constant search for evolution. Jon and I want to keep evolving and learning, still do. I think that's one reason why we stayed together. Not only had fun, but it is a quest to keep learning and evolving. If there were such a search, it would be fun, "said the guitarist.
It only remains to wait for the group to Argentina and the chance to see them live on 3 October in River.

Bon Jovi: Bon Jovi plays through the pain

The Circle remained unbroken on Tuesday night at the Rogers Centre.
New Jersey rockers Bon Jovi played the first of two back-to-back shows of their so-called Circle Tour in front of 42,000 fans at the stadium, despite frontman Jon Bon Jovi's torn calf muscle injury sustained during a July 9 concert in his home state. He has played a handful of shows, mostly in Canada, since he was injured.
And while it was lead guitarist Richie Sambora who first appeared under the spotlight during the intro to the opening song, Blood On Blood, from the band's huge late ‘80s album, New Jersey, it was the entrance of Bon Jovi that really got the crowd going.
"It's a long way from the El Mocambo to Rogers Centre, I'll tell you that," said Bon Jovi, staring the at the huge audience.
"Don't mind me, I'm just taking it all in," he added later as the show wound down.
Give the 48-year-old performer credit as there was a lot of ground to cover - literally.
Joined by keyboardist David Bryan, drummer Tico Torres and two other touring musicians, the group played on an enormous stage, dominated by a semi-circular video screen and catwalk, and two rectangular video screens on either side.
Not that Bon Jovi, who was spelled at one point by Sambora who took over on lead vocals during Lay Your Hands On Me, did much walking for much of the two-and-a-half hour show.
The second song was We Weren't Born To Follow, the first single from their 2010 album, The Circle. But it was the older hit, You Give Love A Bad Name, that struck a major chord with the fans, who happily sang along.
"This ain't television baby, get up out of your seats!" screamed Bon Jovi as the song began. "Show me what you got!"
Among the standouts from the group's 27-year back catalogue were the anthemic Bad Medicine, Have A Nice Day, Who Says You Can't Go Home, Keep The Faith, Wanted Dead Or Alive, Livin' On A Prayer (which included fan generated videos to the song), a cover of Bob Seger's Old Time Rock N' Roll (featuring opener Kid Rock) and the ballad Always.
"If you can't have fun doing this, you're a dead man," said Bon Jovi before he broke into the Seger cover.
But there were far too many misses, such as during I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, We Got It Goin' On, Something For The Pain and In These Arms.
When Sambora later joined Bon Jovi at the front of the catwalk for I'll Be There For You and Bryan and Torres completed the lineup for Something For The Pain and Someday I'll Be Saturday Night, it was all pretty snoozy.
If I were them, I'd edit out some of the ballads from the set list and leave the crowd wanting more.
Otherwise, Kid Rock's hour-long opening set gave Bon Jovi a real run for their money. He kicked it off strongly with the trio of Rock N Roll Jesus, You Never Met A Motherf----- Quite Like Me, and All Summer Long.
"All the music you're hearing on stage tonight is live," said the the 39-year-old Detroit country-blues-hip-hop-southern-influenced rocker. "This ain't no Britney Spears b------- and all that. This is not some American Idol b-------. This is some American badass s---."
Helping out was his 10-piece Twisted Brown Trucker Band as Rock's never-ending tour in support of his last studio album, 2007's Rock N Roll Jesus, shows no sign of ending. (His next record, Born Free, produced by Rick Rubin, is expected soon).
Rock owned Bon Jovi's massive stage, walking along the circular catwalk and hi-fiving fans like he was the headliner, and even took to the piano to belt out Sly and The Family Stone's Everyday People.
But it was his own Cowboy, which saw him put on a cowboy hat and strut the catwalk again that really ignited the audience, along with the country-fuelled ballad, Picture, which saw his female backup singer Shannon Curfman take over Sheryl Crow's part of the duet as Rock inserted the lyric, "Wish I had a Toronto woman to miss me."
He also played the turntables while smoking a cigar and drinking a shot of liquor, strapped on an electric guitar, and took over on drums for a cover of Ted Nugent's Cat Scratch Fever.
"Whoooooo! You know what that is right? It's the redneck mating call," he joked, before stripping off his shirt, amid fire bursts and fireworks during his final two songs, So Hott and Batwitdaba.

Another day, another Bon Jovi concert review. But at least the reviewer isn't snarky and mean and wishing he or she was at some Hipster band's concert.
Kid Rock is like not the best looking man in Rock N Roll, he's not the worst either, of course the ugliest man in Rock in Chad Kroger from Nickleback. When God handed out Rock Star Pretty of course Jon was at the front of the line and by the time Chad got there (hell, even if he had been second in line) God let him know, 'Oops, sorry all out..." (I'm not insulting Nickleback as a band like some people do, I like their music, but Chad to me is U-G-L-Y).

EDMONTON — As soon as I heard the chorus of Bed of Roses, I was back at the school dance in Grade 10, a hormonal, desperate dreamer singing along while watching the cool kids slow-dance, ever hopeful some hunk might someday be willing to sleep on a bed of nails in my honour.
Yup. Bon Jovi can still pound a Prairie girl’s heart into mawkish mush.
Twas the perfect night for an outdoor trip down rock memory lane at Commonwealth Stadium: clear skies, just a sliver of moon, no coat required.
The epic rock band came on as the sun set and wouldn’t stop playing until after Cinderella’s bedtime, giving the sold-out crowd of more than 40,000 a serious hit of bad medicine.
“I’m just gettin’ warmed up,” frontman Jon Bon Jovi shouted after 40 minutes. The set, well over two hours, was everything fans could hope for: all the classics (and there are a LOT of classics), video bling and plenty of close-ups of the lead singer. He’s still got it, that Jonny: the voice, the hair, that sweaty V-neck sex appeal that makes an otherwise sensible woman want to pounce and paw. Not bad for a 48-year-old father of four who’s currently suffering from a torn calf muscle. Jon injured himself at a show last Friday in New Jersey; his stage movement was noticeably limited but he grooved as best he could, punching the air and doing one-legged hops while tossing self-deprecating comments to the audience.
“You got another leg?” he asked the band. “I could use one.”
Jutting out from the stage was a raised walkway making a half-circle into the crowd, with some lucky ticket holders tucked in the middle. Jon couldn’t prowl back and forth on the walkway but he sneakily hobbled out to the front of it while guitarist Richie Sambora sang Lay Your Hands on Me.
“I like the view out here,” Jon said. “Not easy to get here but it was worth the trip.”
Support act Kid Rock got the rowdy crowd riled and gave them plenty of time to tank up on beer with an hour-long set. Fans sang along with All Summer Long and I Put Your Picture Away as the rockin’-rappin’ renegade monkeyed around on stage, standing above a turntable and playing it through his legs while smoking a cigar.
“Woooooh!” he shouted. “That’s the redneck mating call.” The gel-nailed, handlebar-mustachioed masses hollered back.
But it was Bon Jovi they’d come for. Like kittens at a bowl of milk, they lapped up Jon’s bad-boy grin and husky sound as he belted out one anthemic hit after another: You Give Love a Bad Name, Dead or Alive, Livin’ on a Prayer. And I couldn’t help but appreciate his passion performing I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead — clearly, he means what he sings.
The Bon Jovi posse may be jowlier and wrinklier but their energy Thursday was unfaltering — Sambora was unstoppable, burning up yet chilled out, chewing gum the entire show while singing backup vocals, and drummer Tico Torres bashed out beats in a perspiration-soaked frenzy. Keyboardist David Bryan’s frizzy mop is so dated yet I’m not sure I’d want it any other way. The collective wildness quelled my cynicism about vintage bands touring for the money.
These guys still love what they do.

Sounds like the Canadian dates are going well.
I wish Jon would sit down though. He could cause some long term damage if he doesn't take it easy. Being a Martyr isn't a fun thing, unless he's a masochist and there's some fiction inspiration for you!
Also we're back to vanilla. The set list was pretty standard. Which is disappointing after the "72" songs played at the O2, you'd think that they would come back across the pond and be all reinvigorated but nope, same old Jon, Same old band.

Jon Bon Jovi belts out a power ballad to a crowd of 40,000 at Commonwealth Stadium on Thursday night. (Amber Bracken, Edmonton Sun)
By now, all the good Bon Jovi jokes have been used up.
Like: Maybe 100,000,000 Bon Jovi fans CAN be wrong.
Or: If a tornado hit, there would be no casualties because all the people who live in trailer parks were at the Bon Jovi concert.
And how about a new one in the wake of Bon Jovi suffering a torn leg muscle while performing last week: It’s just a stage he’s going through.
OK, he didn’t actually fall through the stage. Apparently, his leg just sort gave out towards the end of the first show of the tour in New Jersey. It happens to many 48-year-olds doing much less strenuous or interesting things. Taking out the garbage, say. This old man is rocking.
But at the end of the day — Thursday night at Commonwealth Stadium, more specifically — there is no joke. The supernaturally attractive singer proved he is still a masterful showman capable of causing mass spasms of uncontrollable 80s nostalgia from the 40,000 fans in his complete control, whether they liked it or not, and of course they all liked it. You could tell by the mass spasms.
Also, deafening cheers, rousing singalongs and squeals of feminine glee every time the frontman tossed his stadium hair or flashed his stadium grin for the humongo-tron cameras.
Livin’ on a Prayer, You Give Love a Bad Name, Bad Medicine, Wanted Dead or Alive — these songs will live forever, much like zombies.
Fitting that as the sun set, the band roared out of the gate with an old one, Blood on Blood, a song about an undying friendship, much like the one that exists between Bon Jovi and its fans since the 80s. Even the new stuff had the pungent aroma of that wonderful decade.
Saving the true crowd-pleasing chart-toppers till later like deadly bullets in its holster of hits, the band deployed several tunes from its new album, The Circle. These included We Weren’t Born To Follow, which is a song about rebellion that isn’t specific about whom we should be rebelling against, no mention of “the Man.”
The video screens showed multiple images of Jon and his hair and his grin, along with the Dalai Lama, Martin Luther King, J.F.K., Hendrix and even Elvis, whose importance in the history of rebelliousness is arguable.
But that doesn’t matter. Almost every Bon Jovi song is a vaguely empowering anthem on topics both worldly and personal, espousing simple, wholesome values.
Most choruses are easy to sing along to. They were all performed full throttle last night, as if each song was last encore of the night. They could’ve ended the show anywhere, really.
Jon sang like a champ and made a valiant effort on all the rock star moves with his gamey leg. What a trouper.
Richie Sambora, meanwhile, tore of one screaming riff after another. By the fourth song, they were covered in sweat.
Jon did a great job rousing the crowd to frenzied heights of excitement. Early on, he shouted, “This ain’t television, baby — get out of your seats, get out of your seats, get out of your seats!” Obedient fans, we did, only to be rewarded with the first massive hit of the night.
I don’t care what you think of Bon Jovi music, hearing 40,000 people sing “shot through the heart and you’re to blame, you give love a bad name!” is a stirring experience. Now you’ll have that song going through your head all day.
More recent material followed before the next climax of Bon Jovi classics, the night proceeding more of less like lovemaking — fast, then slow. Hard, then soft. Not necessarily in that order.
Say one thing for these guys: they know how to pace a rock show. Bon Jovi has been at this long enough to make it look easy.
Of course, for all their gifts, at the end of the day, they’re still just doing Bon Jovi songs. They are to blame, they give rock a bad name. Kidding! Just another cheap joke.
Opening act Kid Rock seems to be aiming for that mysterious demographical nexus between rednecks and hip-hop fans, a combo that makes as much sense as the African-American Confederate Flag Preservation Society (AACFPS). Weird, but there it is — and no one owns this peculiar musical genre better than Kid Rock.
Rare is the performer who can pull off mangled versions of Sweet Home Alabama and Everyday People in the space of 10 minutes.
Mr. Rock also warmed up the crowd with a song about a rock ’n’ roll Jesus, a song where he mentions wanting to have sex with your wife, and a song that sounded like Can’t You See, but wasn’t.
He played piano, he played guitar, he played drums, he rapped, he went heavy metal, he went country, he led the crowd in a chant of his own name. How’s that for a multi-talented ego?
This guy literally wears lots of hats. None of them are very good, but points for trying. And more points for declaring that all the music heard was made by real musicians.
“This ain’t no Britney Spears bull---!” he said. Sad one should even have to mention it these days.

Wounded rocker's vocals right on the money for sold out crowd
By Heath McCoy, Calgary Herald July 15, 2010 4:03 AM
Bon Jovi performed a sold-out show Wednesday at Pengrowth Saddledome. Attendance 16,000.
Whether you're a devoted member of the Bon Jovi fan club or you're more apt to goof on the band, hard rock-lite heartthrobs that they are, you have to give a hard working rocker like Jon Bon Jovi credit where it's due.
The man has always given the impression that he's knocking himself out for the fans when he's standing on the stage fronting the band that is his namesake.
He even powers through painful injuries suffered on the job, like the calf muscle he blew out during Bon Jovi's Friday night gig in his hometown of New Jersey.
That's the sort of thing that's been known to put many a pampered rock star out of commission for a bit of a bed and beauty rest and time to lick the wounds.
Not so for this 48-year-old rocker who brought his band to Saddledome on Wednesday night for a Calgary Stampede gig.
Like Bon Jovi keyboardist David Bryan said in an interview before the concert: "He's our race horse," and that race horse put on an impressive showing at the Dome in a sold-out gig that went on for a good two-and-a-half hours.
Hitting the stage with Blood on Blood it was clear the singer was working through an injury in that he favoured his strong leg and he wasn't quite as rambunctious as he can be.
He acknowledged as much too, rewriting a line from Blood On Blood as "me, I'm the one-legged singer in a long-haired rock 'n' roll band."
But he didn't let it slow him down -- much. During hit songs like You Give Love A Bad Name, Born To Be My Baby and It's My Life he actually pogoed and broke out a few moves on that one leg, and he didn't look all that silly doing it, either.
In fact, to the many ladies in the audience who came to drool at the guy, he looked fine. Was that a squeal I just heard? Mighty fine, I suppose.
Unlike so many classic rock bands, Bon Jovi is able to push its new tunes on the audience as well, without losing momentum.
That was clear during songs like We Weren't Born To Follow, Work For The Working Man and the band's foray into contemporary country rock, Who Says You Can't Go Home?
A huge part of the show's success was down to the band, who played it loose but with real authority, guitarist Richie Sambora and drummer Tico Torres driving the sound.
As for our wounded hero, his vocals were right on the money, warm, raspy and soulful, and throughout the evening he emitted the charisma of man who had something to prove.
One of the highlights in that proving was a version of the '80s hit Bad Medicine, which incorporated Roy Orbison's Pretty Woman. It brought the roof down.
At press time the encore had begun and Jon limped up to the mic leading his band through an excellent version of Wanted Dead or Alive.
The fans, of course, loved the show, but even Bon Jovi's detractors would be jerks not to admit that the band with the beat-up frontman won the fight on Wednesday night.

Jon Bon Jovi keeps the faith, 25 years on
Fresh from a 12-gig run at London's O2 Arena, the 48-year-old rocker talks social activism
By Sandra Sperounes, Edmonton Journal
Jon Bon Jovi sounds a bit bleary-eyed as he sits in a stranger's home, fielding phone calls about his band's upcoming tour across North America.
He's just come from a series of meetings with politicians and the opening ceremonies of the AT&T National, a golf tournament hosted by Tiger Woods. In a few hours, the New Jersey rocker will perform an acoustic set in the stranger's home, somewhere near Philadelphia. It's all part of a joint fundraiser for the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, which helps homeless people in Philadelphia, and the Tiger Woods Foundation.
"If I told you I didn't know (where I was), I wouldn't be lying," sighs the 48-year-old Bon Jovi. "It's exciting and crazy and sad, all at the same time. I'm actually hanging in there."
He's also discombobulated by jet lag. The night before, he flew in from London, England, ecstatic and exhausted after Bon Jovi's 12-gig, sold-out run at O2 Arena. Over the course of three weeks, the rockers went through more than 60 songs from their catalogue -- from 1984's Bon Jovi to 2009's The Circle -- and a few covers, including Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah and Roy Orbison's Pretty Woman.
"It was great," says Bon Jovi. "The idea of setting up a residency like that not only allowed us to have our friends and family come and visit and make it a month-long vacation in London, but it challenged the band and the crew and everyone involved in the show to perform 72 different songs. That, in and of itself, is the most we've ever done in any one location. It was exciting, it was exhilarating, you never got bored or stale or tired. It was cool. I really enjoyed it. And I left there drained."
Over the next three weeks, he'll continue to challenge himself as Bon Jovi performs 12 shows across the U.S. and Canada as part of The Circle tour, including Thursday's show at Commonwealth Stadium. Expect a "minimum of 2-1/2 hours" from the frontman, guitarist Richie Sambora, bassist Hugh McDonald, drummer Tico Torres and keyboardist David Bryan -- but don't bother to look for previous set lists to get an idea of their possible song selections. Jon Bon Jovi comes up with a new list for each show.
"Not before 7:30 that night," he says. "Oh yeah. There are grown men standing outside my door, waiting for the baker to open up and let out tonight's bread. The set comes after I warm up and figure it out."
With more than 140 crew members, he has a lot of mouths to feed -- and it's getting somewhat tougher as the concert industry falters.
Artists are cancelling dates left and right, with Christina Aguilera pulling the plug on her entire tour and Lilith axing as many as 10 shows. (Ticket sales are down by 17 per cent from last year, according to Pollstar magazine.)
Even Bon Jovi isn't safe. Tickets are still available for Thursday's show at Commonwealth Stadium. Prices are now as low as $10. Jon Bon Jovi isn't too worried. Their 12-show run in London netted $18.1 million US, according to Billboard magazine.
"We've been blessed, more than blessed," he says. "Our shows have been up there in the 99 percentile (of ticket sales). Four nights at Giants Stadium, two nights in Toronto, two nights in Chicago, 12 nights in London, it's just beyond our comprehension.
"People with disposable income ... there are so many choices for them to utilize it. I think the A-list entertainer is always going to be OK, but it's going to be harder for the struggling guy, unless he does a festival situation. I'm not quite sure how it's going to go."
Bon Jovi could be contributing to the concert industry's current woes. The band is one of dozens of performers who offer pricey VIP packages to their fans. Then again, you could say those VIP packages allow the band to offer $10 tickets to fans without a lot of disposable income. In a sense, Jon Bon Jovi is as much of a socialist as he is a capitalist.
"If people want to pay X for what they're promised, there's nothing wrong with it," he says. "It's up to the individual. Nobody's stealing anything, nobody's scalping anything. It's all really above board."
He might disagree with the socialist label --isn't it a bad word for most Americans? -- but Jon Bon Jovi is proud to be a social activist.
He's not quite as celebrated (or denigrated) as U2 frontman Bono, though he's just as passionate about trying to fix the world through his songs and his philanthropic work. He started his foundation in 2006, while he was a co-owner of an Arena Football team, the Philadelphia Soul.
"We were rather scattershot when we began it, but it was under the guise of sports ownership," he says. "What we knew would differentiate us from the Big Four (major leagues -- football, baseball, basketball and hockey) was to do something that would endear you to the community and make a difference in the community.
"It all came to me one night when I saw a homeless guy sleeping outside of City Hall. I said, 'I got it, this is the one thing that doesn't matter if you're black, white, young, old, Republican, Democrat, Eagles fan or Giants fan.' So we started to really focus our efforts on it five, almost six years ago, and today, we've built 260 homes and it's something I'm very excited about, proud about, and something I'm getting quite well known for. The team's gone but the foundation is thriving."
His foundation may be relatively new, but his concern for social and political issues was apparent early on in his career. Livin' On a Prayer, their 1986 smash, tells the story of two lovers struggling to pay the bills, while 1992's Keep the Faith could be classified as an antiwar anthem.
The Circle, released last fall, is the band's most socially and politically conscious album. Bullet, for example, was inspired by the energy crisis and actress/singer Jennifer Hudson's family tragedy. (Her brother-in-law killed her mother, brother and seven-year-old nephew.) We Weren't Born To Follow is a response to "what was going on with the election of our president, the economic downturn, and how people were going to stand up and be counted this time." Superman Tonight is an ode to a damaged little starlet, but could apply to anyone with self-esteem (or other) issues.
"I'd get a lot more tabloid news if I'd admit who it was, but I can't," he says. "I won't. It's the only boy-girl song on the record. I don't know why I care, but I cared about this girl. You say, 'Oh, I can fix this,' but I can't."
He also can't fathom the thought of running for political office, despite his close ties to President Barack Obama and his administration. (Chief adviser David Axelrod has the lyrics to Bon Jovi's Work For the Working Man framed on his office wall.)
"I think it's a pretty thankless job," he says. "I don't know if I'm ever going to be thick-skinned enough and I think there are those who are better serving the public with specifics in mind. So, for me, if I stay on an issue that I can impact, it's homeless. I don't have to be a scientist to create the cure and I don't have to be knowledgeable about roads and bridges when I care about houses. To run for governor or something, it just doesn't seem like the right idea."
After all, Jon Bon Jovi is a rock star, used to years of creature comforts. He's a capitalist as much as he is a socialist.
"I was once with president Clinton on an airplane, a very small private plane, there was five of us in total," he says.
"A guy asked a question, 'President Clinton, whose job is better -- yours or Jon's?' I said, 'Can I answer that question?' The guy said, 'Yeah, sure.' I said, 'Mine.' He said, 'Why do you say that?' I said, 'Because I get to keep the house and the airplane.' "

Some interesting worldwide concert data:
Some interesting worldwide concert data:
Bon Jovi tops the Hot Tours chart based on ticket sales revenue generated from 12 sold out concerts at London's O2 Arena during The Circle Tour's European leg in June. With show dates ranging from June 7-26, the combined gross for the dozen performances was £12.6 million ($18.1 million US) with 187,696 tickets sold. The band kicks off another North American leg on July 9 with a return engagement at the new Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. followed by amphitheater and stadium performances that are planned for the remainder of the month.
The Eagles are No. 2 in the Hot Tours rankings with $5.5 million in box office grosses from three concerts at the Hollywood Bowl on April 16, 17 and 20. These were the legendary band's first concert appearances in the Los Angeles area since beginning the Long Road Out of Eden Tour in March 2008. The next scheduled tour date is the Austin City Limits Music Festival on October 10.
AC/DC ranks in the No. 3 position based on totals from a single concert appearance at Stadio Friuli in Udine, Italy on May 19. With ticket sales topping €2.8 million ($3.5 million US) and 46,487 fans in attendance, the sold out stadium event was part of the final leg on the band's Black Ice World Tour that wrapped in June.
The first totals have been reported for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' 2010 North American tour, giving the band this week's No. 4 ranking. $2.2 million in ticket sales came from two venues, Oakland's Oracle Arena (June 5) and Rexall Place in Edmonton (June 16). Joe Cocker was the opening act for both shows.

And if you want to see the numbers they're here. One surprise for me, my understanding was some of the O2 shows WERE NOT sellouts, but the data here shows they sold every seat . So are they cooking the books so to speak. or did the promoter buy the tickets from himself at a lower cost to show a sell out. (Notice the Eagles were 4 thousand tickets short of a sell out for their 3 nights at the Hollywood Bowl).
AC/DC though is still a hard rockin' powerhouse. All over the world they are selling it out. Rock N Roll ain't noise pollution, rock N roll ain't gonna die, obviously.
Oh and in case you didn't know Yusef Islam used to go by the name Cat Stevens.

Finally!!! Music info. While Richie's Fashion road trip is fun, we love Bon Jovi for the music, RIGHT??? RIGHT!!!
It’s been way too long since I enjoyed an evening in the company of Jon & Co, so it was with great anticipation I took my seat at the O2 on night nine of their 12-night residency.
As the first chord struck I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed - it was just like we’d never been apart.
Ridiculed by the critics as inauthentic poodle rockers, Bon Jovi have proved after nearly 30 years together they can withstand the test of time, by delicately tweaking their image and adapting their style to draw in new generations along their journey.
Bon Jovi have never failed to impress on the entertainment front. As seasoned stadium performers they know how to work the crowd for maximum impact and within seconds of bounding onto the stage singer Jon is yelling to the masses to “get up out of your seats” before launching into one of their uproarious anthems.
Formed in 1983, Bon Jovi consists of lead singer and namesake Jon Bon Jovi, guitarist Richie Sambora, keyboardist David Bryan, drummer Tico Torres as well as current bassist Hugh McDonald.
The band's line-up has remained mostly static during their 26-year history, the only exception being the departure of Alec John Such in 1994, who was unofficially replaced by Hugh McDonald.
Their enduring appeal is reflected by the crowd, packed to the rafters with children, teens, parents and pensioners alike all belting out the chorus with gusto while throwing that obligatory hand into the air at the appropriate moments like their life depends on it.
Why? Because somehow, Bon Jovi have this ability to completely entrance their audience.
A critic recently likened their performance to a religious revival – with 250,000 fans expected during their residency at the O2, that’s not a bad-sized parish for one city.
The band failed to disappoint fans with a string of their big numbers – including favourites Raise Your Hands, Born to Be My Baby, Keep the Faith and an excellent rendition of Bad Medicine peppered with some of their newer tracks, with Work for the Working Man among the more memorable.
The impressive set was sophisticated yet simplistic, giving an intimate feel when necessary and transforming into a stadium platform with the help of clever split and rotating stages.
At times though all the audience could enjoy was a mere flash of white teeth at the mic as close ups were often reserved for the screens serving fans sat in the highest seats.
Playing out to their greatest hit Living On A Prayer, I was left wishing I’d booked in for the full 12-night experience.
Bon Jovi are at the O2 until Saturday, June 26.

I added the last part of the title but you know he's thinking it.
Ok, a few days ago they said they wouldn't be touring as long as the Rolling Stones now it's well at least we know when we can end.
I guess I need to start saving up. Oh yeah there's a video too! The starting commentators comments are kind of condescending. Click here for the video
After 27 years together Bon Jovi is still one of the biggest music acts around.
ONE News Europe correspondent Paul Hobbs caught up with the band in London hours before playing their eighth concert this month and got a taste of the rock 'n' roll attitude.
Bon Jovi has been pumping out the hits since the mid-1980s and the crowds are still feverishly in love.
Richie Sambora says the band's concerts are like "having sex with 70,000 people or something every night".
Their dress and their hair have changed and predictably there are a few more lines on their faces, but despite the fame and fortune that goes with more than 120 million record sales, the boys from New Jersey are adamant they are still the working men of blue collar rock.
"It's who you are and that's where we come from. That's where we'll always be," says keyboardist David Bryan.
Sambora says playing a concert is like a "contact sport".
"If you ask me if I'm going to sit in my room by myself and play Livin' On A Prayer and Wanted Dead Or Alive for the fifth-upteen-thousandth time, I'm going to say 'no'. But in actuality when you're out there and you have contact with your audience, it becomes a beautiful experience."
The band's latest album, The Circle, entered the US charts at number one, their single Work For The Working Man hitting the right notes in a country battered by the economic meltdown.
"It captured that essence that people can relate to in New Zealand, the same way that Work for the Working Man relates to the guys that we wrote it about in Ohio," says Jon Bon Jovi
The band doesn't always get the rosiest reviews, but Jon says it doesn't faze them.
"We get incredible reviews and we get bad ones. Jesus had rocks thrown at him, you know, so it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from or what you think you are, anybody is going to be critical of anybody."
Jon Bon Jovi also says forget any talk of slowing down.
"The only barometer is the Rolling Stones, and when they call it quits, at least we know that's where the finish line is."
I guess we'll be seeing Duck Lips for a long time then, I'm hearing rumors that The Rolling Stones and Keith Richards corpse (I would have rather had them find out how Keith was alive over Ozzy myself) will be going back on tour to play to sold out stadiums, with each successive tour people think this could be the last cause you know they're all so old and decrepit they might fall apart and die on stage (God Forbid).
