Before tonight’s Bon Jovi concert at EnergySolutions Arena, local college students were invited on a backstage tour.
Thanks to the help of national honor society Lambda Pi Eta, about a dozen Brigham Young University students spent the afternoon at the venue to learning what it takes to stage a major production.
In addition, opening act Ryan Star talked to the students and agreed to a video interview with journalism students.
Tribune music writer David Burger spent about 90 minutes with the tour, and here are some things he learned:
The concert will feature plenty of onstage robots.
VIP ticket-holders get to sit on special Bon Jovi commemorative seats decorated with the band’s signature winged-dagger-through-heart logo. Best of all, the VIPs get to take the folding chairs home with them.
About 86 crew members tour around the world with Bon Jovi, and they hire an additional 80 stagehands in each city to help with the production, which was shipped via 16 trucks.
